Walls: Florence Police value transparency

Posted

We continue to be transparent in our processes and communication with our citizens. We have heard negative comments around the nation regarding police and their use of force in light of the Tyre Nichols and Anthony Lowe cases.

Now, I don’t know all the circumstances regarding these cases, but I know there is concern about police use of force. I want to assure our citizens, each use of force the Florence Police Department has is reviewed by a committee formed of our citizens and police. This process allows us to review each incident not only from a police perspective but from the view of the people we serve.

We have the privilege to hear from our citizens, talk about our policies, and take in suggestions that we, as police professionals, may not think of. Our team aspires to building trust and legitimacy within our community; this committee is an integral part of that. I am proud that we get an opportunity to engage in conversation that educates both our citizens and the police. Through transparency, we are building relationships with our community.

We invite our community to contact our Professional Standards Unit at 520-868-7660 if you feel you have been mistreated by the police. We also have complaints and commendation forms on the police website.
As always, we invite you to stop by (425 N. Pinal St.) and visit your police department. We will be happy to share with you the great things we are accomplishing in our deliverance of quality service to you
