Opinion

The bond between older adults, pets is a lifeline that needs extra support

Rowell Ranch Farm Sanctuary has partnered with AZCEND, Follow Your Heart Animal Rescue, Sandi’s Tailwaggers and HEAL Kids & Animals to launch a pet food assistance program aimed at supporting homebound seniors and individuals in need.

The initiative responds to a growing concern that some Meals on Wheels clients share their food with pets due to an inability to afford pet supplies, potentially compromising their own nutrition.

The program will provide free pet food and basic supplies to Meals on Wheels recipients through community donations and volunteer support.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

• Rowell Ranch Farm Sanctuary, 12602 E. Via de Palmas, Chandler
• Healthy Paws Market for Follow Your Heart Animal Rescue, 446 N. Higley Road, Unit 102, Mesa
• Sandi’s Tailwaggers, 190 W. Cardinal Way, Chandler

Items requested include wet or dry dog and cat food, storage containers and gallon-sized resealable plastic bags.

Volunteers are needed to help bag, sort and deliver donations to AZCEND. Monetary donations and volunteer sign-ups are available at www.rowellranch.org.
