Robert Michael Tomich
Robert, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022. Born October 7, 1937 as a first generation American to Michael (from Serbia) and Irene (from Italy) Tomich, Bob Tomich lived a Norman Rockwell childhood in Gary, Indiana with aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins all within walking distance of his home. Bob spent his childhood as an alter-boy at St Marks and working in his dad’s gas station after school. Upon graduation from High School, Bob joined the Air Force and served as a Medic at Randolf Air Base in San Antonio. After the Air Force he attended Purdue University where he got his BS degree in Industrial Management. He later received an MBA in Management from Xavier University and was able to utilize his education on his first job at Ford Motor where he helped install the first IBM computer in the manufacturing plant in Cincinnati. Bob went on to a career in the high-tech world with jobs at Hewlett Packard, Intel, Convergent Technologies, Unitron Medical Communications, Advanced Computer Communications, Redcreek Communications and Unisys in California. On an assignment in Clearwater, FL, he met his wife, Helen, and they moved back to San Francisco. Finding the climate a little too chilly there after sunny beaches, Helen convinced him to relocate to Arizona where they purchased a home in Anthem and he worked NDC Health. While in Anthem Bob and his next-door neighbor helped start the Anthem Posse and he volunteered at Sheriff Joe’s Tent City helping troubled kids before ultimately retiring to Sun City. Not one to stay idle, Bob filled his days with a job at the Sun City Homeowners Association where he later became President of the Board of Directors. He also served as Vice-President of the Sun City Condo Owners Association as well as Chairman of the Board in the Condo association where they lived. He became active in the Sun City Leathercraft Club, the Bell Woodworkers and Metal Club. He also made many friends in the Bell and Marinette Fitness Centers where he worked out daily. Bob is survived by his wife, Helen; brother, John; son, Rodney; daughter, Rena; grandkids, Cindy and Sean; and Sean’s son, Caleb. A memorial service will be held at St. Joachim and St. Anne Catholic Church, 11625 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 9th, 2022.
