NAU school named for Chandler tech firm leader

Northern Arizona University officially renamed its College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences to the Steve Sanghi College of Engineering in an April 25 ceremony in Flagstaff.

Thanks to a generous $10 million cash gift — the largest gift of its kind in NAU’s 125-year history, according to a news release — from Maria and Steve Sanghi.

Steve Sanghi, who served as president and CEO of Chandler-headquartered Microchip Technology, is a longtime business leader, author and philanthropist who the release states had a longstanding interest in engineering, mathematics and robotics education.

Speakers at the event included the benefactor couple. Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs made the trip to Flagstaff and spoke at the event.

The NAU president and other university leaders, including the dean of the newly renamed Sanghi College of Engineering, were also scheduled to speak.

About 150 people representing NAU leadership, engineering faculty, Flagstaff community members and the university’s foundation and alumni board members were set to attend.

The Sanghi College of Engineering is at 2112 S. Huffer Lane, Flagstaff.
