A 29-year-old man has been found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder and other charges in connection with a 2017 shooting in Chandler.
Taron Lavelle Watkins also was convicted of one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
He faces two natural life sentences for the shootings on Aug. 26, 2017 when Chandler police were called to investigate a shooting near Elliot Road and Arizona Avenue.
The shooting happened inside a red sedan that was in a parking lot, according to witnesses.
Watkins was a passenger in the car, MCAO officials said. A victim who survived his wounds called 911 for help. A 16-year-old girl was one of the fatalities.
“This has been a difficult case that has taken years to bring to justice. I commend the prosecutors who have worked arduously on behalf of the victims and their families to ensure this violent offender is held accountable.” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said.
