Man convicted in Pinal County-to-Chandler police car chase

Posted

A Pinal County jury in Florence has convicted a man on charges of aggravated assault of a police officer and unlawful flight from law enforcement in a high-speed car chase that went from Picacho to Chandler.

Jonathan Altland is facing 21 years in prison.

On April 29, 2021, Altland fled from a Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy attempting to conduct a traffic stop near Picacho, according to a press release.

Altland took off at more than 120 miles per hour and during the pursuit fired a gun at the deputy’s vehicle with one bullet striking the windshield.

Altland continued through Coolidge and then to Chandler, onto Loop 202 driving the wrong way and eventually into the fence of the San Tan Ford dealership.

“Those who assault or run from law enforcement will be held accountable to the full extent of the law,” Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller stated in the release. “The Pinal County Attorney’s Office respects our men and women in blue and will seek a maximum term for the defendant’s crimes.”
