Chandler woman's animal abuse court hearing bumped again

Posted

A status conference related to the 77 animal abuse-related misdemeanor charges filed against a Chandler woman has been postponed again, the city of Chandler announced.

The Chandler Municipal court date for Sydney McKinley, also known as April McLaughlin, has been rescheduled due to a motion to continue filed by the defendant’s attorney, and without objection from the prosecution.

The status conference is now scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, in Courtroom 3 at Chandler Municipal Court, 200 E. Chicago St., Chandler.

A status conference is an opportunity for the defendant and the defendant's attorney to meet with the prosecutor.

McKinley was having nearly all her Chandler court dates even before the Maricopa County Attorney filed state charges against her last year, as defense/prosecution talks dragged on. McKinley was initially arrested in September 2023 after Chandler Police served a warrant based on complaints about the treatment of dozens of dogs at her home-run animal rescue.

McKinley is still facing several unrelated state charges.
