Perry’s boys basketball team was honored at the April 8 Chandler Unified School District Governing Board meeting for winning their fourth consecutive state title in March.

The Pumas, coached by Sam Duane Jr., went 27-2 in 2024-25. They finished ranked No. 4 nationally according the MaxPreps, with their only losses to teams that finished ahead of them on that list.

Perry clinched that fourth title with a 63-44 win over Sunnyslope in the Open Division championship game in early March.

For coach Duane Jr., it’s the second time he’s coached teams to four straight titles, having done the same at Corona del Sol from 2012-15.

The introductions included six seniors. One senior is 6-foot, 8-inch Koa Peat, a University of Arizona commit, whose appearance with his teammates came one day after MaxPreps announced him as one of the five All-America players this year.

Peat earned all sorts of other honors in his career, including being named to a McDonald's All-American game roster.
