A 27-year-old man died Thursday following an officer-involved shooting in Chandler, police said.
Police responded about 12:15 p.m. March 20 to a domestic violence call in the 600 block of East Commonwealth Avenue.
Witnesses had called 911 stating an elderly neighbor was asking for help after getting into an argument with a family member, according to a release from the Chandler Police Department.
A witness also stated the man was armed with a knife and had made suicidal and threatening statements toward the family member.
When police arrived, they found the man outside, still armed with a knife, the release stated. “Officers told the man to drop the weapon, but he did not comply and continued to run toward the officer with the knife in his hand. That is when the officer-involved shooting occurred.”
The man, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
