Chandler is getting another public company as Comtech has opened its new corporate headquarters in the city.
Originally in Mellville, New York, Comtech has moved into a 150,000-square-foot space at 305 N. 54th St. The office, engineering and manufacturing space is designed to enhance the company’s operations and improve collaboration, officials said.
“Chandler has established itself as a leading technology corridor in the United States,” said John Ratigan, interim CEO of Comtech. “We are thrilled to expand our footprint in Arizona and excited to benefit from the city of Chandler’s continued commitment to innovation.”
Comtech disclosed it would move its headquarters to Chandler in March. The company works on a variety of telecommunication tools, from next-generation 911 emergency services to satellite and space communication technologies. Comtech’s Chandler headquarters will serve commercial and government customers, including the U.S. government, the DoD, humanitarian agencies, satellite service providers, some of the nation’s largest cellular carriers, cruise lines, and emergency response agencies, among others.
The company has operations in Tempe as well, and various other locations around the U.S. and in Canada.
The company saw sales of nearly $550 million in its fiscal year 2023, the last complete year available, according to its filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The company reported a loss of $33.9 million that year.
“Publicly traded headquarters do not relocate often, but we have found that Chandler’s robust talent pipeline and pro-business operating environment make a compelling case for corporate decision makers,” said Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke.
Company officials said the fact Chandler is home to several of its clients made the move easier.
“Comtech’s Chandler headquarters will bring enhanced economic growth opportunities and highlights Arizona’s attractive business environment and reputation as a top hub for innovation and technology,” said Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs. “We are proud to support Comtech in their new chapter and look forward to supporting Comtech’s success in Arizona.”
The company plans to be involved in the Valley community. In February, in partnership with the Society of Women Engineers at Arizona State University, Comtech sponsored and participated in the annual Chandler Innovation Fair. Last October, the Chandler Chamber of Commerce recognized Comtech as one of the Top 100 businesses in the city. And in March 2023, Comtech hosted its first-ever Exchange event, an educational series inspiring woman of all ages to pursue STEAM career fields, in Chandler.
