In addition to the road and street challenges brought on over the weekend by heavy storms, Chandler firefighters also had to deal with at least one major structure fire call at the start of the weekend.

According to a news release, fire crews responded to a reported "working apartment fire" at an apartment complex 755 N Arrowhead Drive early Friday morning. Oct. 10.

"This was a single-story fourplex apartment with heavy fire coming from one unit," the release stated. "Firefighters made a quick knockdown on the fire and kept it contained to the involved unit."

The non-sprinklered unit had a fire that originated on the patio and extended into the home due to an open door.  Fire crews were on -scene quickly,  keeping the fire contained to two bedrooms and no extension into the attic, the release states.

The release stated five residents were displaced by the fire  — two adults and three children. There were no injuries to any apartment residents or firefighters.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, the release states.
