Chandler Council acknowledges women's cancer concern

A Sept. 17 Chandler City Council proclamation reading was in honor of September being ovarian cancer awareness month.

Councilmember Christine Ellis, a former nurse, read the proclamation, which included some grim statistics. Those included ovarian cancer as the fifth-leading cause of death among American women.

The chance of an American women being diagnosed with ovarian cancer at least once in their lifetimes is 1-in-91, she said, and the chance of an American woman dying of the disease are 1-in-143.
