Peoria Unified governing board member Rebecca Hill has resigned, effective following the next regular board meeting, Aug. 24, accrding to the district.
Hill provided her resignation to Maricopa County Education Service Agency, sharing that she is moving out-of-state to be closer to family.
"I am grateful the opportunity I had from our electorate to serve this community, and wish the district well in the future," Hill stated in her resignation letter, dated Aug. 14.
In a statement, the Peoria Unified School District said it is grateful for Hill’s service to the district and wishes her the best as she begins this next chapter.
Peoria Unified will begin work with MCESA Superintendent Steve Watson, who appoints governing board members to fill vacant seats. The appointed governing board member will serve the remainder of the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2024. Additional information on the timeline and process will be forthcoming, the district said.
During her nearly three year-term, Hill has received opposition from some parents and community members for her deliverance of Bible scripture from the dais and a recent notice of claim from a PUSD teacher over alleged discrimination.
