The omnibus spending bill signed into law this month has more benefits for Glendale.
In addition to the $2 million directed to the city to complete a water supply hookup to connect Glendale, Peoria and Phoenix in an effort to add backup needs in the event of an emergency, the $1.5 trillion spending bill that President Joe Biden signed into law also will help the city in other ways.
Dollar-wise, the biggest impact comes in the form of $5 million to build a new Mountain Park Health Center in Glendale. The new clinic will be at the intersection of 67th and Glendale avenues.
The nonprofit health center offers pediatrics, women’s health, internal medicine, dental, and has an on-site pharmacy. There are currently 10 Mountain Park clinics throughout the Valley in Phoenix and Tempe, with one other West Valley site in Goodyear.
Continued growth out west, in particular for families facing financial hardships, necessitated the new Glendale location.
“They’ve got a lot of folks that are uninsured or they’re on AHCCCS, but even people go there that have private insurance because it’s like one-stop shopping for health care,” Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly said during a Glendale visit on March 18. “It provides pediatric care, OB/GYN services, and your primary care physician can be there, pharmacy, dental. So we secured federal funding to build a state-of-the-art Mountain Park Health Center in Glendale.”
Workers should break ground soon on the new site, with the Glendale clinic expected to open in a year or so.
Federal funding will also help the Glendale Police Department.
The spending bill will give $715,000 to GPD for a Mobile Command Center to provide updated technology and also serve as a backup Emergency Operations Center for frequent large events and potential natural disasters in the region.
In total, the federal bill will provide more than $4.4 million to benefit police departments and public safety efforts in cities and towns across Arizona.
