A drive-thru concept new to Peoria is planned for the northwest corner of 83rd Avenue and Cactus Road.
Utah-based Swig is planning a new drive-up drink establishment offering a variety of sodas, seltzers, with names like Cherry Bomb, Beach Babe, Dew Gooder and Unlucky Ducky, to name a few.
Some food items are on the menu, but drinks are the name of the game at Swig.
The company employs more than 500 people with at least 43 locations, including two in Gilbert, one in Mesa and one recently opened in Phoenix.
The Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission approved a conditional-use permit to allow for the drive-thru July 20.
Officials said the purpose of the permit is to ensure that the physical and operating characteristics inherent with the land use have been sufficiently resolved or mitigated, optimizing compatibility with the surrounding area, and that the use is not injurious to the health, safety, and general welfare of the community.
The project will feature a single 665-square-foot building with the associated drive-thru queue of two lanes and a single point of pickup.
Hours of operation will be Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday-Saturday 8 a.m.-10 p.m.; closed Sunday.
