The cost of the third and final phase for a more than $15 million heating, ventilation and air-conditioning remodeling project at East Valley Institute of Technology was approved recently.
The EVIT board voted unanimously March 24 to approve the $5,065,947 third phase with Chasse Building Team, which includes $3,853,668 for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning labor of underground material piping and installation of the central plant equipment at the EVIT campus, 1601 W. Main St. in Mesa.
The other two phases were procurement of materials, at $5,685,562; and piping and underground work, at $5,065,947, according to a board document.
“(W)e’re in the midst of a major remodel of the main campus and one of the major remodelings of the main campus is the central plant. We phased the central plant remodel into three different phases — the early procurement, then the piping and the underground that you’re seeing, and then finally the installation,” EVIT Superintendent Chad Wilson told the board prior to the vote. “The early procurement was so we could get the material here in time for the installation. What we’re bringing to you tonight is the final — the third phase of the actual (guaranteed maximum price) for the central plant.”
The underground piping is to be completed by the time school starts in the fall, Wilson said.
“And then we will look at the fall at some point between the start of school and winter break — most likely at fall break or right at winter break — in which they will assemble the new central plants and then connect the new piping to the new central plants and effectively be done with our central plant remodel,” he said.
