House of Clay wellness center planned in Mesa

Posted

A medical office business with art and yoga studios, massage rooms and a coffee bar is planned east of Gilbert Road on the north side of Brown Road in Mesa.

The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board recently voted unanimously in a consent agenda with other items to recommend that the Mesa City Council approve a site plan review for the 1-acre property. Absent from the meeting was board member Benjamin Ayers.

The zoning for the site is office-commercial, which allows medical offices, Planner Chloe Durfee Daniel said at a study session prior to the March 9 meeting.

“(C)urrently the site is vacant but surrounded on both sides by two other medical offices. The project is proposing a 5,920-square-foot building with a 415-square-foot covered patio. They are proposing new pedestrian connections from the medical office to Brown Road,” she said.

Boardmember Jeffrey Crockett asked what type of business is planned.

“I see it’s got a yoga room and a community kitchen, so what information do you have on what the use is going to be?” he asked.

“Yeah, it is a combination medical office. ... There’s a couple different things that they’re providing from art opportunities to therapy to I think there’s a coffee bar that people can come in for coffee at. And so it’s kind of just a slightly mixed medical office from what I do understand,” Daniel said.

Eric Spry of Spry Architecture is the applicant. T3CN LLC is the owner.

A House of Clay wellness center is planned at 2320 E. Brown Road in Mesa, according to a written project narrative.

“The use of the House of Clay is to be medical and therapeutic. Specifically, to provide for the medical and therapeutic functions, the House of Clay will include coaching offices, an art studio, a yoga studio, massage rooms, medical offices, a coffee bar and outdoor garden area,” it states. “The landscape design is intended to provide a green space between Brown and the parking lot. Additionally, we intend to provide a green space between the residential area to the north and the building.”

The seven-member Mesa Planning and Zoning Board conducts hearings and makes recommendations to council on requests for changes in zoning and on required site plans. It also considers and recommends changes in the city’s long-range plans and in the municipal code concerning planning and zoning matters. Members are appointed for staggered terms of three years, according to the city’s website.
