Constitution Day, Week recognized by Chandler Council

Posted

The stated goals of the Sons of the American Revolution organization include celebrating the U.S. Constitution’s principles through public events, civic education and patriotic service.

Four men whose efforts to maintain that authenticity include Revolutionary War-era clothing — were part of a recognition of their efforts and the annual occasion in Chandler City Council chambers on Sept. 15.

The Sons of the American Revolution were recognized at a Council study session held the week of Constitution Day nationwide, or as Chandler leaders call it, Constitution Week.

Mayor Kevin Hartke thanked the Sons for their help in the city recognizing Constitution Week the past few years. He also said the group will likely continue to be a part of planning and putting on events celebrating the 250th year of American independence that the mayor will announce soon.

The Sons group was given a certificate and took photos with the mayor and Council member Jane Poston.
In period-specific clothing at the study session were SAR members Bill Baran, Brad Hopkins, Jim Hinsey and David Bonnet.

A local Daughters of the American Revolution group also dressed for the Sept. 15 study session and was acknowledged. DAR Regent Jean Milberger said DAR and the Sons are looking forward to participating in Chandler’s Parade of Lights in early December.
