An office development planned for 1 acre west of Lindsay Road on the north side of Southern Avenue in Mesa will be the new headquarters for Boomerang, a real estate finance company.
The landscaping and look of the Boomerang headquarters development were discussed at the Jan. 10 meeting of the Mesa Design Review Board. Board member Dane Astle recused himself due to a conflict of interest — he is the applicant.
The property to be re-purposed for the development is slated to be rezoned to office with a bonus intensity zone overlay, Staff Planner Chloe Durfee Daniel said at the board meeting.
“The site plan is 11,012 square feet of building space with a mixture of an existing building and a new building. You have about 5,463 square feet existing of the two different buildings and then 5,549 square feet of new. So two separate buildings,” she said.
Astle of Edifice Architecture is the applicant. Boomerang Southern LLC is the owner.
Improvements at the site will include the remodeling of the existing building and the addition of new areas adjoined to the existing building and an accessory structure, according to a written project narrative.
“The proposed design aesthetic is in line with the surrounding area. The facade will include the reuse of the existing brick and new brick to match where needed, painted stucco, and gray (concrete masonry unit) block with black grout. The existing painted metal accessory building will be partially visible from the street,” it states.
The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
