Air conditioning outage forces closure at Gilbert’s Neely Traditional Academy

Posted

A heating, ventilation and air conditioning system outage at Neely Traditional Academy put an early end to the school day Tuesday at Gilbert’s Neely Traditional Academy.

All students were relocated with their teachers from the school at 500 E. Houston Ave., Gilbert, to Mesquite High School, 500 S. McQueen Road, Gilbert. Parents and families were able to pick up their students later in the morning.

While no instruction was provided at Mesquite, students were cared for by teachers and staff, Gilbert Public Schools spokesperson Dawn Antestenis said. Movies were played in the auditorium and lunch provided.

Students who ride the bus regularly and could not be picked up early by parents will be able to ride the bus home as usual.

The district has no timetable yet on repairs to the HVAC, Antestenis said. The district will email parents with updates.
