The Mesa City Council is set to vote on the city’s budget for Fiscal Year 2025 as well as hold a public hearing on a secondary property tax levy for that same fiscal year at a June 3 meeting.
The council is to hold a public hearing on both the budget and secondary property tax levy, but will vote on the budget during their 5:50 p.m. meeting on June 3 at the council chambers at 57 E 1st St. The council will vote on the secondary property tax levy at their June 17 meeting which takes place at 5:45 p.m. at the chambers.
According to a council presentation, the proposed total city budget for Mesa for Fiscal Year 2024-25 will come out to about $2.69 billion. The funds would be split up with multiple categories, with the most being $558.7 million going to the general fund and $562 million for restricted funds.
The proposed general governmental funds budget is around $670.2 million. Police get the biggest share with $251 million, transfers gets $111.7 million while fire and medical services is $110.9 million.
For the Fiscal Year 2025 secondary property tax levy, the proposed amount comes out to $42 million, which is an 8.4% increase over the amount from the previous fiscal year of $38.8 million. A council presentation forecasts the tax levy to increase to more than $50 million between now and Fiscal Year 2030.
The property tax rates per $100 assessed value are not anticipated to go up from the Fiscal Year 2024 amount of $0.08582 and council forecasts those rates remaining the same from now until Fiscal Year 2030.
