Superstition fire and medical selling salvaged UTV

Posted

The Superstition Fire and Medical District is selling a salvaged utility task vehicle with a damaged engine and using the proceeds to offset the cost of a new one.

The SFMD board voted 4-0 Nov. 20 as part of a consent agenda with other items to approve the disposition of surplus property. Board member Jason Moeller was absent.

The district, which is primarily funded by property taxes, provides fire suppression, fire prevention, wildland protection, advanced life support, rescue, extrication and medical transportation services out of five fire stations in Apache Junction and Gold Canyon.

Any money collected from the sale of the recently salvaged UTV can offset the cost of a recently purchased one. The money would be added to the general fund, Assistant Chief Richard Mooney wrote in a memo to the board.

“The vehicle’s engine has been damaged from being laid on its side while running for an extended period of time. SFMD has already removed the parts that can be used on our other UTVs,” he said. “The UTV would be sold as a no-warranty item. SFMD would be looking for at least a $7,000 minimum bid from the public.”

Because of a firefighting conference, the next SFMD board meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 14. SFMD board meetings are generally held at 5:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month at the SFMD Administrative Office, 565 N. Idaho Road in Apache Junction. Agendas are at https://sfmd.az.gov/.
