Goodyear to reopen public buildings, parks May 11
Posted
On Monday, May 11, the city of Goodyear will reopen public buildings and amenities closed April 1 over COVID-19 concerns.
“The move to enter Phase 1 of the city’s reopening plan comes after the governor’s announcement this week, accelerating the reopening of retail, restaurants and salons. In the spirit of the governor’s orders, the city will open under Phase 1 while following the federal reopening guidelines,” city spokeswoman Tammy Vo stated in a press release.
When city offices open Monday, visitors will be greeted by signs encouraging social distancing and utilization of online city services, she stated.
While the Goodyear Skatepark will remain closed, basketball, volleyball, tennis and pickleball courts, Roscoe Dog Park, playgrounds and restrooms will be open, with enhanced cleanings, and signs posted outlining social distancing requirements and limiting groups to 10 or less.
“Park rangers will also monitor and provide education,” Ms. Vo stated.
City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission meetings will remain closed to the public but the public can continue to participate through live streams and videoconferencing, the release stated.
“The health of Goodyear’s residents and the city’s employees is of the utmost importance. To prevent further spread of COVID-19, many city employees will continue to telecommute in Phase 1,” Ms. Vo stated. “Those who will physically come to work and interact indoors with the public with no protective barrier will wear face coverings. The city has also installed glass barriers at public counters and will encourage social distancing through markings on the floor. Employees will also check for virus-related symptoms before their work shifts and thermometers will be available in every city department.”
Residents also will see signs at various city locations reminding employees and the public about what everyone can do to continue to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Ms. Vo did not give a timeline for further reopenings but stated, “The city will look to move into Phases 2 and 3 when the time is right and when the state has indicated a consistent downward trend with virus cases and symptoms in Arizona.”
A graphic included with the release noted that Phase 2 will encourage social distancing, and will limit groups to 50 or less. Phase 3 will lift most distancing restrictions.
Residents can visit the city’s COVID-19 page at goodyearaz.gov/coronavirus for more information, and find updates on its Facebook page, Ms. Vo stated.
