Buckeye residents interested in filling the City Council District 6 vacancy left by former Councilman Eric Orsborn’s resignation may submit applications by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 21.
The council voted unanimously in regular session April 21 to accept applications from district residents interested in being appointed to serve the remainder of Mr. Orsborn’s term, which expires in 2022. He resigned April 2 to run for mayor in the Aug. 4 primary, and is running unopposed.
Applicants must be registered voters 18 or older who have lived in the district for at least one year. They must submit a letter of interest to City Clerk Lucinda Aja along with their online application and acknowledgement of qualifications at buckeyeaz.gov/District6Vacancy.
Applications will be reviewed by a subcommittee composed of Mayor Jackie A. Meck, Vice Mayor Craig Heustis and Councilman Patrick HagEstad, who will make recommendations to the full council on a date to be determined.
District 6 boundaries are Northern Avenue to Yuma Road, Perryville Road to Miller north of I-10, and Perryville to approximately 223rd Avenue south of Interstate 10, city Communications Manager Annie DeChance stated in an April 22 press release. The district includes the Verrado community and other subdivisions including Arroyo Seco North and South, Blue Horizons, Buckeye Parkway Center, Canyon Views, Paloma Vista, Phoenix Skyline West, Sienna Hills, Sundance, Valencia Heights and Windmill Village.
District residents with questions may email them to Ms. Aja at laja@buckeyeaz.gov, mail them to her at 530 E. Monroe Ave., Buckeye, AZ 85326 or call 623-349-6911.
