Update on Apache Junction parks facilities, programs
Open swim and open gym programs remain suspended

The City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation has updated its plan for use of facilities under federal and state guidelines concerning COVID-19.
Group fitness classes and indoor pickleball courts use at the Apache Junction Multi-Generational Center will resume on Tuesday, May 26, according to a release.
The MGC, 1035 N. Idaho Road, will also resume small-group youth and adult recreation programs on June 1. Check ajcity.net/parks for details on reservations and distancing guidelines.
Playgrounds will reopen on Saturday, May 23, while the skatepark at Superstition Shadows Park will reopen after fence repairs are completed.
On June 1, the Superstition Shadows Aquatic Center will offer small-group classes with physical distancing restrictions in place.
Registration for June recreation and aquatic programs --- except swim lessons --- begins Friday, May 22, for residents, and on Wednesday, May 27, for non-residents.
Registration for June swimming lessons begins Tuesday, May 26, for Apache Junction residents, and on June 3 for non-residents.
The city had kept some open areas and continued to distribute meals to seniors over the last two months. The city kept Flatiron Community Park, Prospector Park, Silly Mountain and other spaces open while following federal and state guidelines on physical distancing, the release states.
The fitness area, gym and game room at the MGC became available on May 18. Ramadas, sports fields and sports courts are open for non-group use at parks, with pickleball and tennis courts available by reservation.
Open swim and open gym programs remain suspended.
Although Open Gym is currently suspended, a variety of smaller recreation programs for youth will be offered this summer. The Boys and Girls Club in Apache Junction, along with private daycares in the community, offer child care, the release states.
