Superstition Community Food Bank expansion underway

Funding also sought for parking lot, building addition

A food bank offering assistance to individuals and families in northwest Pinal County and east Mesa is expanding thanks to a COVID-19 relief grant, but additional funds are needed for the two-phase project.

Superstition Community Food Bank, 575 N. Idaho Road Suite No. 701 in Apache Junction, late last year received a $100,000 grant from the Maricopa County Food Bank Assistance Program through the Arizona Food Bank Network to support efforts in food preparation and storage. It was especially timely for the planned expansion of refrigerator and freezer units at the warehouse, Executive Director Myra Garcia said in a release.

Additional COVID-19 relief grants are sought as the total cost of the first phase is $182,000.
