Melanie Larson new principal at Apache Junction High School

Melanie Larson is the new principal of Apache Junction High School in the Apache Junction Unified School District and will officially begin working Sept. 14.

She is a student-centered and visionary educational leader with more than 18 years of experience in education. Her career includes work as a principal and assistant principal, charter school founder, academic and behavior support director, curriculum coach, and secondary science educator, according to a release.

Larson has a Doctor of Education in leadership and innovation and a Master of Education in secondary education from Arizona State University. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in nutrition from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

She began her career in education as a Teach For America corps member and holds Arizona certifications in principal leadership and secondary science education.

Throughout her career, Larson has worked alongside educators, students and families to strengthen instruction, foster positive school cultures, and develop systems that support student achievement and belonging, the release states.

As she joins Apache Junction High School, 2525 S. Ironwood Drive, Larson plans to prioritize listening, relationship-building and collaborative decision-making. She is committed to honoring the school’s existing strengths, empowering its staff and ensuring all students are prepared for success after high school, the release states.
