The House recently passed a ban on TikTok and now the decision will rest in the hands of Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Mark Kelly, and the rest of the U.S. Senate.
I have to ask though — if the bill is successful and China has to divest from TikTok, won’t it just get the same information from the myriad of companies already selling our private data? It feels like this bill is nothing but a witch hunt where Congress burns one at the stake, but overlooks the coven of witches hiding in plain sight.
There is no doubt that we need to fix social media and get control of what these companies are allowed to do with our data, but tying it to China and TikTok is pointless and won’t fix the real problems.
