Walk n’ Roll returning for inclusion in Surprise

Dysart special ed group is bringing back annual event

The Dysart Special Education Parent Teacher Student Association announced the return of its highly anticipated event, the Walk n’ Roll for Inclusion.

The theme this year is “Lettuce Taco ‘bout Inclusion” and is scheduled to take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14 at Dreamcatcher Park, 14534 W. Tierra Buena Lane,

This free family event is set to bring together individuals of all abilities for an afternoon filled with fun, education and collaboration.

The Walk n’ Roll for Inclusion will feature an array of activities designed for participants of all ages and abilities, is free and open to the public. From engaging games and informative exhibitors, to an extensive silent auction, makers market showcasing local talents, and delectable offerings from food trucks, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

At the heart of the event is a mission to raise awareness about accessibility and universal practices not only through an awareness walk, but also through an Inclusive Practices Poster Fair. The poster fair seeks to empower local high school students to solve real world issues regarding inclusion in schools, accessibility in the community, and universal hiring practices.

The primary program to benefit from funds raised at this year’s event is the Accessible Playgrounds Initiative. Funds raised from the Walk n’ Roll for Inclusion will support the initiative’s goal of providing accessible rubber surfacing to school playgrounds in the district and more accessible playground equipment. This initiative will ensure that all children can enjoy recess regardless of their abilities.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Walk n’ Roll for Inclusion for its second year,” said Sara Rivera, president of the Dysart Special Education PTSA. “This event will allow attendees the opportunity to learn more about fostering an environment where every individual feels valued and accepted as well as to socialize and just have fun.”

Participants are encouraged to register in advance to secure their spot and receive event updates. Registration can be completed at app.memberhub.gives/inclusion2024.
