Surprise woman wants Grand solution to coyote problem

Grassroots group pushing for alerts, protection from wild animals

When a coyote attacked a Surprise woman and her 4-year-old daughter outside their home earlier this month, Liza Rassner’s heart sank.

The Grand woman had been fearing an incident like the one that happened to the two victims — and she tried to sound the alarm about the dangers of coyote encounters before it happened.

Local mom Brittany Cardinal suffered lacerations and puncture wounds to her face on Sept. 6 when trying to shoo away a coyote that had nipped at her daughter while not looking. The coyote then bit Cardinal on the face when she tried to hit the animal.
