Surprise offering virtual HOA sessions

Academy workshops scheduled for online throughout year

Residents who are a homeowners association or condominium board member, owner or property manager in Surprise are encouraged to take advantage of the Virtual HOA/Condo Academy this year.

Join Beth Mulcahy, of the Mulcahy Law Firm, for virtual classes throughout the summer and the rest of 2024. A new class is offered each month through Zoom and Facebook Live.

Registration is required.

Upcoming classes are as follows:

• Charting Your Course: A Comprehensive Guide to Board Roles and Responsibilities in HOAs/Condos — 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, May 21. The roles, responsibilities, risks, and fiduciary duties of board members.

• Untangling the Web: Navigating Politics and FAQs In HOAs/Condos — 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, June 18. Discuss the politics inside and outside of an HOA/Condo and the most frequently asked questions.

• Amending CC&Rs and Implementing Rental Restrictions and Budget Planning – 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, July 16. Learn a five-step plan for confidently amending CC&Rs and get an overview on creating HOA/condo budgets and reading financials.

• What Is a Community Association and Secrets of Successful Associations — 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Aug. 20. An overview defining HOAs, governing documents, organizational structure, rights and responsibilities of the board of directors and homeowners.

• The ABCs of Enforcement for HOAs and Condos! — 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Sept. 17. How to best handle violations, fines, lawsuits, refusal of owners to pay assessments and owners not getting approval for changes.

• Legislative Update, Federal Laws and Preventing Crime and Limiting Liability in Community Associations — 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Oct. 15. Overview of the new laws impacting HOAs/condos, including a deep dive into the Fair House Act, assistance animals, group homes and more.

• Solutions for Rental Properties and Parking Headaches — 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Nov. 19. How HOAs/condos can best handle rental properties and parking Issues.

• Deck the Halls with Questions — 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6. Bring your questions, including ones about holiday decorations, to the final virtual session of 2024.
