Surprise library system starts summer reading

The Surprise Public Library System is launching its Summer Reading Program with a kickoff party on June 3.

The party is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3 in Asante Library, 16755 W. Vereda Solana Drive.

Join Surprise libraries for a free event to kick off the Summer Reading Program. It includes a magician, foam party, face painting, music, games, crafts, giveaways and more. Food will be available for purchase.

Beginning June 1, prereaders, youth, teens and adults can track reading minutes to win prizes like free books, park passes, food items, game tokens to local entertainment centers and more,

The Surprise public libraries are among the 65 libraries across Maricopa County are gearing up for Summer Reading as Maricopa County Reads opens June 1 at MaricopaCountyReads.org (English) or CondadoDeMaricopaLee.org (Spanish).

The theme of this year’s county program is “All Together Now,” encouraging readers of all ages to explore stories of unity, kindness and community.

Some SPLS programming will also qualify for points toward summer reading prizes.

Register at maricopacountyreads.org by selecting a preferred Surprise library location, then get ready to enter reading minutes from June 1 to August. Paper game boards are available at the three Surprise libraries.

The other two libraries are as follows:

  • Hollyhock Library, 15844 N Hollyhock St.
