Surprise growing xeriscape garden
Area to promote sustainable use of water
Posted
By city of Surprise
The city of Surprise has broken ground on a Xeriscape Demonstration Garden on the Surprise City Hall campus, just west of West Valley Arts HQ in the City Center.
When completed in January, the garden will be a multifunctional space showcasing arid landscapes, while promoting responsible and sustainable use of water.
It will provide the opportunity for the city’s Water Resource Management Department to demonstrate appropriate landscape maintenance and watering practices to residents, HOAs, commercial water users and other groups through both tours and self-guided materials.
The garden will also function as a space to host events with a built-in amphitheater.
The project is thanks to funding support from Arizona Department of Water Resources, Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management and U.S. Forest Service.
During construction, the entrance to West Valley Arts HQ off Paradise Lane will be blocked off.
Civic Center Plaza is available as an alternate entrance.
