Imagine Prep Surprise boasts 3 CAA wrestling champs

Posted

At the beginning of February, three Imagine Prep wrestlers were crowned state champions of the Canyon Athletic Association.

In addition to the three champions, four other wrestlers earned medals. Junior Madison Woodland and seniors Arnold (AJ) Stolz and Bryce Pollay came out on top in their weight classes.

Woodland, who has been riddled with injuries this season earned the first place medal in the girls division for her weight class. Her overall record in her first season of wrestling was 4-3 with two pins.

Pollay, now a two-time state champion, took the title in his weight class. Pollay’s record this season was 25-1 with 22 pins, and in the championship match he came out victorious against the only opponent who beat him all year.

He won with a 14-6 major decision victory in the finals. Pollay ended his career with 52 total wins, nine losses and 42 pins.

Stolz, won his match decisively by technical fall, 18-2. Stolz’s record for the season was 23-1 with 20 pins.

In his four year wrestling career, Stolz has a record of 63 wins and 18 losses with 54 total pins. Stoltz is the school record holder for career pins and wins,

“Over the years I’ve always seemed to fall short, but this year I took a different mindset to it and put everything I had into it, into the sport, and it caused me to come out on top,” Stolz said.

Stolz said that his time and effort put into wrestling has given him a lot to think about and reflect on.

“It feels very relieving and gives me a lot to look back on and reflect on,” Stolz said. “It just shows me that hard work really does pay off. It’s crazy, I surpassed someone I never thought I’d be able to surpass and it is just a great honor. I never thought I’d be able to do it.”

Senior Ximena Black ended her high school wrestling career with a second place finish. Placing third in their weight classes were seniors Zach Bews, John Ballman III and Marshall Cantrell.

The seven medals earned were third best among all CAA teams.
