2020 Election

Hastings: I'm thankful for election win

Posted

We did it. Thank you Surprise residents. This victory is not just about me, it’s about all of us.

This win would not be possible without so much support from people around me. Thank you first to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Through Him, all things are possible.

Thank you to Olivia, my soon-to-be-wife wife, for being there on my best days and worst days. Thank you to the residents of Sun Village, Kingswood Parke, Mountain Vista Ranch, Surprise Orchards, Sierra Verde and West Point for putting your trust in me to work for you for the next two years.

Thank you to the Arizona Police Association and the West and Southeast Realtors of the Valley for your endorsement and support of my candidacy. Thank you to everyone who donated, put up a yard sign, knocked doors, dropped off flyers, wrote the paper, posted on social media or simply talked to a friend about me.

I also want to thank my opponent. Though we don’t agree on everything, I respect anyone who serves our city.

To everyone who voted for me, we could not have won this without you. I look forward to making your vote worthwhile by working hard and listening to you every day.

To those who voted the other way, I will work just as hard for you and hope to earn your vote in 2022.

To all Surprise residents, I work for you. Politicians work for us, not the other way around. To all of my students, if you want something, work hard for it. You are never too young to make a difference.

I am officially sworn in this January, but I plan to start working for you as your councilman immediately.

I will attend city council meetings on a regular basis. We will begin holding monthly community meetings to keep you up to date with current events around the city.

I plan to work as hard as possible over these next few months so we can ensure a smooth transition for everyone and hit the ground running in January.

Public safety and the safety of our residents needs to be our top priority in our city. Our police officers and firefighters put their lives on the line every day, and we need to provide them with the proper resources they need to stay safe and keep us safe.

Surprise needs local places for work and entertainment. We shouldn’t have to go to Glendale for entertainment or Phoenix for work. We need to bring nicer restaurants, shopping, and high-paying careers to our city. We need to start building out our downtown for both seniors and families.

Education is the future of Surprise. I have a passion for our youth and want to give back to the community that made me who I am. I teach civics at the high school I attended as a student and am committed to supporting our next generation of Surprise residents.

The time for campaigning is over. Let’s get to work.

Editor’s Note: Jack Hastings was elected to the Surprise City Council from District 5 on Aug. 4.
