Grand Softball bats cleanup for Relay for Life

Since the inception of the event in 2007, Grand Softball has contributed more than $200,000 to various cancer charities through events such the Relay for Life softball tourney.
This year’s opening event was Feb. 4 and raised $4,818 for the upcoming Relay for Life in Surprise.
The day featured a five-game tournament at the Field of Dreams in The Grand and an overflow crowd of spectators who enjoyed food, refreshments, raffles, fun and, of course, the games. A special feature of the event was an exhibition game between the Grand Diamonds and Blue League All Stars.
Congratulations to the White Cells/Blue Team as champions of the tournament under the management of Artie Stackpole. Also, congratulations to the Blue League All Star Team beating the Women’s team in the exhibition game between the tournament games.
• Neighboring Sun City West will play host to its 11th Relay for Life of the Sun Cities event from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 at Beardsley Park, 12755 Beardsley Road, Sun City West.
The event takes place to honor survivors, help raise funds for cancer research and survivor support, and also recognize those lost and who are fighting cancer right now.
An opening ceremony with the survivor lap around Beardsley Park begins at 4, followed by entertainment, raffles, items for sale, and a mini car display by the Automotive/Restoration Club.
A luminaria display will take place around 6:30 with 400 to 500 lit luminaria surrounding the park.
