Dress code topic wears on Dysart Schools in Surprise

Discouraging students from wearing pajamas to class, and dressing in business casual attire or uniforms are among recommendations Dysart Unified School District governing board members offered to tighten up a loose dress code policy.

Following a timeline beginning with a proposal, feedback from meetings and surveys in the fall of 1998 to the board approving Kingswood Elementary School’s uniform policy in the spring of 1999, board members received a detailed history at the July 27 board meeting about how the blueprint was set for other schools to institute their own uniform policies.

A discussion based on if there should be stricter district-wide standards for what is considered acceptable dress, or if students should wear uniforms, classroom time spent on enforcing a dress code and disciplining any code violations were addressed by Craig Mussi, assistant superintendent of Support Services.
