Deer Valley, US 60 get new traffic signal in Surprise

Posted

The city of Surprise has gotten a new traffic signal at US 60 and Deer Valley Road, courtesy of the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The signal was set to turn on Friday, April 12. It's installation was a requirement from both the city and ADOT of Courtland Homes when its North Copper Canyon development was approved.

While the signal is in place, city officials said more work will be coming from the developer to improve safety at the intersection. That work will be:

  • An acceleration lane on US 60 for traffic turning from eastbound Deer Valley to southbound US 60.
  • Dedicated turn lane from eastbound US 60 to Deer Valley.

Along with the new signal, ADOT officials are working to coordinate three signals in the area, including one at 163rd Avenue and US 60, to make sure they work together.
