The Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission is taking another swing at settling a separation distance for Battery Energy Storage Systems.
P&Z commissioners are hosting a public meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 at City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza, for a second discussion on the units, mostly known as BESS.
Commissioners in May voted to lower the separation distance from homes and buildings from 1,500 feet to 100 feet as part of a proposed zoning text amendment concerning BESS. But the city council in June threw it back to the P&Z commission when it opened the matter for more discussion at setback distances of 100, 500 and 1,000 feet.
