Hospital taking assessments for $59 at special event

Posted

Abrazo Surprise Hospital, 16815 W. Bell Road, is offering low-cost heart attack and stroke risk screening assessments from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.

The AngioScreen health risk assessment checks for blood flow in carotid and ankle arteries, and includes a simple EKG for heart rhythm, a blood pressure check and overall fitness assessment. A clinician will review results for indications of an individual’s risk for heart attacks, stroke or peripheral artery disease.

The assessment takes only about 10 minutes and costs $59. Participants are provided with results that include color ultrasound photos of their carotid arteries, and encouraged to follow up and share any concerns with their personal physician.

A special “Ask-A-Cardiologist” lunch and learn session will be held at noon with Interventional Cardiologist Gagan Kaur, who will talk about heart disease and take questions from community members.

“Every 30 seconds an American has a heart attack and every 40 seconds a stroke occurs,” said Abrazo Health Outreach Manager Cindy Roberts. “Isn’t a low-cost, 10-minute screening worth your time to see if you are at risk?”

Roberts said the AngioScreen information can be used by participants to share with their doctor and should not replace regular examinations and consultations with their personal physician.
