Youth transitional housing moves through Surprise Planning Commission

A planned youth transitional housing facility got a nod of approval from the Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission, moving the issue on to the city council.

The commission on Oct. 24 recommended approval of a conditional-use permit to convert a vacant former nursing home at 12215 W. Bell Road in the Sun Ridge development into transitional housing for homeless youth. The project, dubbed HomeBase Youth Services, sits at the back of the development on a 1.45-acre site.

In a quick public hearing that featured no speakers, the commission voted 6-0 to forward the measure on to the council.
