As it tries to grow into a youth athletics destination, Surprise has a perfect template in one sport.
During its Nov. 2 City Council meeting, the council unanimously approved spending $50,000 in tourism funds to partner with a third-party event organizer Perfect Game USA to host 11 tournaments in the city through December 2021.
It did not hurt that Perfect Game just conducted a tournament at the Surprise Recreation Complex Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 that made an impression even with current COVID-19 limitations.
