Youngtown cracking down on 'bad actors'

Ordinances add teeth to enforcement

Youngtown officials ramped up their efforts to curtail issues of trespassing, soliciting and what Mayor Mike LeVault called “bad actors.”

During a special Oct. 31 meeting, the town council approved four new ordinances designed to address these problems. The ordinances target activities at bus shelters along 111th Avenue, pedestrians in roadway medians, high incident areas, and aggressive and prohibited solicitation. In addition, the ordinances are designed to cut down on the homeless and panhandlers in the community.

“We were instructed to review the Youngtown ordinances after Glendale passed a number of similar ordinances to fight these problems,” said Trish Stuhan, the town’s attorney.
