Young Surprise philanthropist creates diamond-worthy donation

Baseball teams play at Peoria Stadium for Soldier’s Best Friend

Four local high school baseball teams played for more than themselves April 25 at Peoria Stadium and Hadley Gray, Soldier’s Best Friend and the Peoria Diamond Club were the angels in the outfield.

Gray is a 12-year old student at Paradise Honors Middle School in Surprise. In recent months, she reached out to the diamond club about hosting a charitable event for the Peoria-based non-profit.

The result was Duel on the Diamond, a high school baseball double header a Peoria stadium starting with Cactus-Peoria then transitioning to a Liberty-Sunrise Mountain nightcap. Is all the games, raffle event and concessions pumping Hadley’s goal of $15,000 into Soldier’s Best Friend.
