Young students visit Sun City museum
Learn of community’s beginnings

A group of students from Discover U Elementary School, 13226 N. 113th Ave., Youngtown paid a visit to the Del Webb Sun Cities Museum, 10801 W. Oakmont Drive, Sun City June 21 to learn the history of the nation’s very first active adult retirement community.
A group of about a dozen elementary school students and three teachers were given a guided tour of the museum and viewed exhibits showcasing the history of Sun City and Sun City West. The field trip marked the first time a group of school students had ever visited the facility.
Museum docents Karen Herzog and Catherine DuBois conducted the tour. Herzog spent her entire career as a public school teacher and is no stranger to corralling a group of students.
Discover U Elementary is a tuition-free public charter school.

The museum board’s goal this year is to expand the museum’s reach and enhance the impact of the museum.
The Del Webb Sun Cities Museum is owned and operated by the nonprofit Sun Cities Area Historical Society and is located in one of the first of five original model homes opened in Sun City. The museum is open noon-3 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays. Call 623-974-2568 to book a group tour.
