No major injuries were reported after a man drove the wrong way on a Valley freeway and collided with another vehicle earlier this week.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety arrested Brandon Delaney as a result of the collision near State Route 51 and Thomas Road before 5 a.m. Monday.
According to records, a male was driving a Mercedes sedan southbound in the northbound lanes when he collided with a Honda CR-V in the HOV lane.
Responding troopers found both vehicles damaged. Two other drivers had to take evasive action to avoid the wrong-way vehicle. The 50-year-old female driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries and refused treatment.
Authorities found Mr. Delaney up against the median wall. He told DPS he was the only one in his vehicle.
A trooper described Mr. Delaney as having watery eyes, slurred speech and a dazed expression. He also had a strong odor of alcohol, records state. After becoming combative with medical personnel, he was taken to a local hospital.
Upon his release, Mr. Delaney was booked into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail. His blood alcohol concentration was a 0.297, more than three times the legal limit.
Mr. Delaney faces extreme DUI, endangerment and aggravated assault charges.
