Avondale will take part in the annual Wreaths Across America campaign, a nationwide initiative that pays tribute to military veterans by adorning their headstones with wreaths.

The city’s parks and recreation department will be actively involved in laying wreaths at the gravesites of veterans interred at the historic Goodyear Farms Cemetery, located at 3900 N. Santa Fe Trail, in Avondale.

This solemn and respectful event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16.

“The Wreaths Across America campaign holds great significance as it serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our military personnel,” a city of Avondale press release states. “By participating in this nationwide effort, we join communities across the United States in a collective expression of remembrance and appreciation for the individuals who have selflessly served in defense of our nation.”

Residents and local organizations are invited to the event, which gets underway at 9 a.m.
