World Series trophy makes Glendale visit

City reads proclamation for championship as spring training opens

A baseball player who got his start as a young kid in Glendale brought a World Series championship trophy back to town Tuesday morning.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Andre Ethier brought the franchise’s 2020 championship trophy to the Glendale Civic Center on March 2 to kick off spring training in a brief proclamation just prior to the City Council’s scheduled budget workshop.

Mr. Ethier was a two-time All-Star during his 12-year career, all with the Dodgers, during which he emerged among the historic franchise’s all time leaders in postseason games played, behind only Justin Turner and Yasiel Puig. Years before that, he attended elementary school in the heart of Old Towne Glendale at Glenn F. Burton, 4801 W. Maryland Ave.
