Woman shot in officer-involved shooting in east Phoenix

An unidentified woman was shot by Phoenix Police in an incident early Monday morning, Phoenix Police said in a release.

Officers responded about 1 a.m. to the area of 40th Street and Indian School Road. The report said a woman was standing in the roadway swinging a knife at a male caller after stopping to see if she needed help, according to the release.

The woman walked onto the sidewalk while officers gave her repeated commands to drop the knife, which she ignored. Officers then attempted to stop her by using a less lethal 40mm impact round, but it had no effect. She continued walking toward an occupied structure, and this is when the officer-involved shooting occurred.
