Woman dies after vehicle crashes into Gilbert senior living community

An 88-year-old woman died Friday night after a vehicle crashed into the American Orchards Senior Living Community in Gilbert, police said.

The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. Jan. 10. Officers responded to the facility in the 700 block of North Lindsay Road and reported that the woman, who has not been identified, died as a result of the collision.

The 33-year-old driver, who has not been identified, fled the scene, but was later found and arrested, police said.

Based on preliminary information, police said impairment appears to be a factor.
